Jaden Springer, the five-star 2020 shooting guard out of Charlotte, N.C., by way of IMG Academy, has officially announced his commitment to the University of Tennessee. He joins an already loaded 2020 recruiting class for the Vols, which features five-star guard Keon Johnson and four-star forward Corey Walker.

According to the 247Sports Class Calculator, this commitment raises Tennessee’s current 2020 recruiting class to No. 4 in the nation just behind Duke, Kentucky and North Carolina. This is by far the best in program history.

Springer’s commitment comes just weeks after he cancelled official visits with UNC and Florida. He then narrowed his top three down to Tennessee, Memphis and Michigan. He applauded Rick Barnes and the staff in his recent Rivals.com interview.

“A coach like Rick Barnes, he’s a great coach, [he’s] worked with many pros and NBA players that are doing great right now,” he said.

Making an impact

The 6-foot-5 guard comes to Knoxville as the 15th-nationally ranked player according to Rivals.com. He is primed to make an immediate impact with Jordan Bowden and Lamonte Turner graduating.

Assuming Josiah James returns for his sophomore season, Tennessee has the chance to roll out one of the most talented back courts in the nation. It’ll feature three former five-star guards.

Springer averaged 21 points per game on 37 percent from the 3-point line. He played for VFL Bobby Maze’s AAU team. Springer now leads his IMG squad to a projected top-5 national preseason ranking for his final year of high school basketball.

Lifelong Tennessee fan so I’m used to the disappointment. My first dream was to suit up for the Vols on the basketball court, but being a 5’8 kid from Knoxville held me back severely. Now I’m stuck here with you guys, covering the Vols. For better or worse!
